The Best Way to Grow Begonia Seeds

Begonia belongs to perennial flowering plants in the family Begoniaceae. As they grow, they bloom into beautiful flowers and so is an ideal choice for your garden.

Begonia seeds are extremely tiny and should be dealt with care. The most important thing while growing these seeds is to ensure that the right kind of environment and growing conditions is provided for the seeds to germinate.

Seed Handling:
Initially, since the seeds are extremely tiny and can be easily discarded if caught in the seam of the packet, they should be opened on a piece of white paper so as to handle them properly and in case any seed falls down, it is invisible. As you open the packet, the general and best practice is to open and hold the packet and as you gently tap it, the seeds start rolling out. This should be done on the planting surface so that as the seeds start rolling out, they are placed on the planting surface. Make sure that the seeds are fairly evenly distributed.

How to Plant Seeds:

Once you have placed the seeds on the planting surface, do not cover them with planting medium as these seeds are extremely tiny and need light for germination. You can place the entire planting in a plastic bag or cover it with a glass jar to ensure it receives ample lighting and place it a temperature of at least 24 – 27 degrees Celsius for germination of the seeds.

Handling After Seed Germination:
After a week or around 10 days, check for some green patches everyday. As soon as the seedling is up, make sure it is exposed to bright light for better growth. But also do not place it under direct hot sun or else the plantlets will get cooked. Gradually remove the plastic or glass jar to expose the young plants to open air.
